The Grace and Faith of a Child

Wow, Violet's 16th EUA.

That is a lot of under anesthesia procedures for such a little peanut who has just turned 3 years old. And, EUAs are only 1 of the things she has had to go under anesthesia for.

Violet's wish trip to Disneyland was the most amazing and joyous experience. But now, after just a few days back, we have had to snap right into the reality of the hospital again. Still, we are so grateful for the wonderful break we had. It was such a blessed time that we will never forget. ♥

Violet always amazes me with her strength and her resilience. It can't be easy for a child to go from being on cloud 9 at the Happiest Place on Earth and then quickly back into the hospital. It just shouldn't be, but this is her path, and she walks it so gracefully. As her parents, we pray each day that we can also walk it with such grace. It's not easy to do.

Violet did tell us that she didn't want to do this today while we were in pre-op. Usually, the concern doesn't show from her until the moment she needs to lay down on the table and have the mask put on her little face. Josh and I reassured her that she was going to do very well and that she is so brave. She kept a smile on her face as we all waited with just glimpses here and there of her uneasiness.

When it came time to go back, Violet did really well until the table. She did not want to lay down. Violet wouldn't do it willingly for the first time so I, along with the nurse and anesthesiologist, needed to use a bit of gentle force. I never had to do this before and it was heart wrenching. She almost started to cry, but I started to sing to her and to remind her that God was watching over her and keeping her safe. She fell asleep, I thanked the staff and made my way back to Josh with tears in my eyes.

It is never easy for Josh and I when Violet is under. The wait to hear if today is the day our world will be turned upside down again by cancer or if everything is still stable is very difficult. When people tell us how strong we are, we thank them because that is a very kind and encouraging thing to hear. But, the truth is, it's not me or Josh who is strong. It is God. We pray our way through the ups and downs of Violet's diagnosis each and every day. Without Him to lean on and without His promises, I don't know how we would get through it.

After the procedure was finished, our hospital pager went off and we quickly walked to the counter. We were given the information of which room to wait in for Violet's ophthalmologist. Our hearts race the most in this room in the moments before we get the news. Most times, we feel sick to our stomachs.

Dr. Wiess comes in with a smile and a thumbs up! Answered prayers come in the words, "She looks great. Everything looks stable and there was nothing new of concern."

Thank you's, happy tears and joy! ♥

Violet's recovery from anesthesia was slow as she wanted to keep sleeping. I didn't mind it at all as I held her in my lap. She could have slept for hours and I would have been completely content. Our sweet girl. We encouraged her to drink her juice so we could get the IV taken out of her hand and take her home. She can never get that IV taken out fast enough ... She does not like it one bit.

Violet is our miracle. Thank you all for praying for her. The support, love and encouragement we continue to receive means so much to us.

God bless. ♥

Please Join Us In Prayer - CT Scan Tomorrow

I just received the call from the hospital with Violet's appointment time. We will be checking in at 9:30 AM at Seattle Children's Hospital. They let me know the procedure will take approximately 1.5 hours and then recovery from anesthesia will be a few hours. These will be the tests that tell us everything about the stage of cancer. We would love for the tumor to just be gone! If that is not the case, we want to hear that it has not spread anywhere else at all. We want to hear that Violet's life will be saved, her eye will be saved and her sight will be restored. There is a beautiful prayer that went out for Violet by email. We do not even know the wonderful man who wrote it but I thank God for him. The prayer was forwarded to me and I want to share it below: As you have said a personal prayer for the benefit of Violet, lets also come to collective agreement in Prayer for her comfort, healing and above all God's Glory ... Father God, Maker of all things good, c...

Our life in a Bubble

Germophobia: An apprehension concerning germs. Someone who has such a concern is often referred to as a "germophobe".  Ok, so I have officially become a germophobe. And, I don't care if there is a negative stigma attached to the term. I have become a germophobe for the safety of our baby. If anyone thinks that I'm the crazy lady at the store because I'm wearing latex gloves ... so be it. Heck, I might even bust out a hospital mask if I feel the need as the cold and flu season arrives. This entire situation has really changed me because I don't care what others think of me anymore as I am living and doing these things to ensure the health of our child. The last 2 visits to the hospital for Violet's blood tests have been a bit tough. Violet is a smart little nugget and she learned very quickly that if a nurse is going for her chest that means something bad is about to happen. So, she is definitely getting upset during her port access (sterilizing the area,...

Moving Forward

The last 5 days have been long and exhausting. To say we are overwhelmed would be an understatement. But, you never know until you are in a situation like this how strong you can really be. When we have our moments where we hit our end Josh and I pray together and God reels us back in to start fresh. On Wednesday afternoon Violet came out of anesthesia with no issues and she handled everything she had to go through that day very well. We were very grateful for that. There was a delay in the doctor getting to speak with us after the procedure that made waiting for news that much longer. The nurse brought Violet in to us as we were waiting and I got to feed her. Seeing our baby with an IV in her little hand, the redness of her eyes from the exam and the thought of the radiation she had just been exposed to from the scan was very difficult. When the doctor came in he explained a lot to us. First, he explained there was no indication on the scans that the cancer had spread to her right...
